Our Funding Model
Our funding approach is more similar to an angel investor than a traditional family foundation. We seek opportunities to make "seed investments" in early stage organizations that have the potential to make a measurable difference in the lives of many.
Our decision process is fairly informal and takes an average of 8-12 weeks. After receiving an initial proposal, we set several in-person meetings and conduct thorough due diligence and talk to board members and key partners. We award unrestricted grants in range of $10,000 to $50,000 annually, with a lifetime cap of $250,000. We currently do not make commitments for multi-year grants.
We aim to support our grantees and funding partners with various levels of engagement. We do not seek to be the lead financial sponsor and are happy to co-fund or match grants with other family foundations and organizations. We also sponsor specific mission-aligned projects, events, and fundraisers that are in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Of course, all our final candidates must already be incorporated as a Tax Exempt organization under 501.3.C IRS tax code or have a fiscal sponsor.
